ABSTRACT: Within five years cryptographic operations will be as widespread and as unremarkable as IP protocol operations have become today. Many trends have combined to make suddenly false the conventional wisdom - based upon human experience from the invention of writing until the present - that cryptography is difficult and expensive. Now is the time to rethink the ways in which cryptography is used and to prepare to harvest the fruits of cryptographic abundance.
