Network-in-a-Box

Whisper ideas and technology can be applied to a variety of different fields. Here are example areas that we are working on.

bullet"Network-in-a-Box" enables an ordinary user to add a computer to an 802.1x-secured wireless network in less than 60 seconds by following two simple steps. In that time, the computer is configured, certificates are issued and installed, and the computer authenticates to the access point and joins the wireless network. This is in sharp contrast to standard 802.1x installations, in which the same process often requires two or more days and numerous manual steps.  PARC's technology can be applied to consumer use, small-office/home-office settings, ad-hoc networking situations, and can be scaled up to ease configuration of enterprise-scale wireless networks.
bullet Casca, a collaborative workgroup application that allows users to work in shared spaces ("converspaces"), in which users can share data and services. Almost any device or service can be shared in a converspace, by encapsulating it as an ObjeTM component. Each converspace is protected from access by users that are not members of that space. Security is provided "automatically" - users are not concerned with how to protect their converspaces. Instead, they merely indicate with whom they wish to collaborate.
bulletAlliance. Alliance is a collaborative file-sharing applications that allows groups of users to share files securely, simply and easily.
