I am a researcher looking for a future in uncertainty1.
I have a clean convictionless past. I grew up in India, where I went to school and undergraduate college. I earned a BTech degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur 1n 1993. Soon after, I came to the US for graduate studies. I spent a few years in graduate school (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), where I frequently indulged in badminton, table-tennis, music and allnight scrabble, DJ-ed for a radio program, organized cultural activities, and stumbled into a friendship with Kanthi -- we married in '98.
While at grad school, I also earned MS and PhD degrees in Computer Systems Engineering, and interned at Panasonic and IBM research Labs. On completion of my PhD, I joined Xerox PARC (currently PARC, Inc.) in October 2000 as a member of research staff in the Document Image Decoding (DID) group.
I am curently affiliated with the Perceptual Documnt Analysis (PDA) rsearch area at PARC. My main research interests are probabilistic modeling, statistical pattern classification, optical character recognition, image processing, document analysis, and information retrieval.
