We have already developed 2 CAPTCHAs: BaffleText and Pessimal Print.

BaffleText

BaffleText was developed in conjunction by Monica Chew (UC Berkeley) and Henry Baird (PARC). Two ideas that were incorporated into BaffleText -

1. Nonsense words: To alleviate the small dictionary problem, we used pseudorandom pronounceable words.

2. Gestalt psychology: People are good at inferring the whole picture from only partial information, while machines are not.

Pessimal Print

Pessimal Print was developed by Allison Coates (UC Berkeley), Henry Baird (PARC), and Richard Fateman (UC Berkeley). We synthesized challenges by pseudo-randomly uniformly and independently selecting:  a word (from a fixed list), a typeface (from a fixed list), and a set of image-degradation parameters (from fixed ranges).
