Connecting people with the information they seek is the challenge in today's digital world. We will explore five main considerations in choosing a search system, and take a look at some existing and future technologies allowing people to find, organize, monitor, and personalize information. We will touch briefly on successful market strategies for the Internet and Intranet, and take a look at how issues of scaleability and performance affect architecture and design. Finally, we will demonstrate some new technologies that can significantly enhance the precision of search and retrieval of information.

Mr. Helgeson joined Verity in July 1995 as Vice President, Research and Development. From 1991 to July 1995, he served as Director of Communications Engineering at General Magic, Inc. and is the co-inventor of the Telescript Language and a chief architect and creator of the software that implements Telescript. From 1989 to 1991, Mr. Helgeson served as manager of UNIX and Macintosh software development at cc:Mail where he architected their platform-independent mail engine and led the development of cc:Mail for the Macintosh. Mr. Helgeson received degrees in French and Biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley.
