This presentation will focus on the methods that HP Laboratories (HP Labs) use to move technology from a corporate research lab out into the business units of the company. The talk will include: background material on HP Labs; a series of examples of how HP Labs has changed and is changing HP; a description of the critical factors involved in technology transfer; the funding model for HP Labs and a review of projects for improving HP Labs.

Ed Karrer is an Electrical Engineer from Stanford University. During his 30 year career at HP he has contributed to HP business units and to HP Labs. He is currently Director of the Measurement Research Center of HP Labs. The Measurement Research Center conducts research in the areas of solid state materials and processing; optical, micromechanical and electrical devices; measurement and information systems for medical, chemical and bioanalytical applications; measurement system architectures and manufacturing research.
