Stories From FX Palo Alto Laboratory

A Fuji Xerox Silicon Valley Outpost

Jim Baker

President and COO, Fuji Xerox Palo Alto Laboratory

ABSTRACT:

Fuji Xerox has multiple strategies for the management of innovation through research. One part of this strategy deals with software and information science. Software is viewed as a significant and strategic area of business activity as we move to the 21st century. To provide technology foundations for this opportunity, a Silicon Valley research outpost - FX Palo Alto Laboratory - was formed in 1995. This presentation contains stories of the early experiences from the FXPAL outpost. These vary from the background leading to the establishment of FXPAL, to some of the research activities in hypermedia documents and mobile systems, to some lessons and thoughts from the outpost.
