Jim ReichArea Manager,Embedded Collaborative Computing Area Computing Sciences Laboratory Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) [the lab formerly known as Xerox PARC] |
My research focuses on Sensor Networks and Smart
Matter -- systems which embed computation, sensing and actuation deeply
into the physical world. I've been involved with several Smart Matter
systems, including ad-hoc sensor networks, active surfaces and
distributed diagnosis using multiple sensor types. More detail on this
work can be found at the ECCA homepage.
My technical focus is on collaborative signal processing, programming
approaches and tools for distributed sensor network application development, sensor fusion
and tracking. I've also worked in distributed control and diagnosis algorithms for smart matter.
In addition to the algorithmic details, I have been the primary system integrator
for a number of these systems, which translates roughly as "the only person
crazy enough to think he understands enough of the hardware, software, algorithm
and electronic implementation details to continue working when everyone else
has fallen asleep"...

If you love Bay Area hiking, in my "spare" time, I organize the MIT Club of Northern California monthly hike series. If you don't tell you're not from MIT, I won't ask :-)
